Create venue reference sets

The Venue reference feature is designed for multi‑site operators who need to manage brand‑specific assets across individual locations. It allows you to configure advanced per‑venue mappings such as unique logos, images, videos, or redirect URLs.

Types of venue references

Venue References can be used to assign different types of assets to specific venues:

  • Normal: Set general text reference values for your venues.

    • Mostly used internally for integration partner reference sets.

  • Images: Map venue‑specific images, including background images, content images, and logos.

  • Videos: Assign background videos to individual venues.

  • Redirect URLs: Specify unique redirect URLs for each venue.

Create a new venue reference

  1. Login to the Wireless Social portal using your email address and password.

  2. From the left‑hand menu, select Administration.

  3. Click Venue Refs to open the configuration area.

  4. Select New Venue Reference Set in the top‑right corner.

  5. Enter a name for the reference set - e.g. Valentine’s Day URLs.

  6. Choose the appropriate Venue Reference Type from the dropdown menu.

  7. Click Save.

Once saved, your new venue reference will appear in a summary table.

To apply a venue and reference, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the cog icon and select Edit.

  2. Select a venue using the Select Venue dropdown or by typing to search.

  3. Depending on the reference type, you will either need to enter the corresponding reference value in the Reference field, or select an image or video asset from the Asset dropdown.

  4. Repeat this process for each venue that requires a unique reference.

If creating a reference set for images, you will first need to upload your images into your Assets library by heading to Configure WiFi, then Assets.

Edit an existing venue reference

  1. From the Venue Reference list, select the reference set you want to update. You can either click the reference set name or use the cog icon and click Edit.

  2. Update the venue mappings as needed by adjusting the reference values in the table.

  3. Click Save to apply your changes.

Use a venue reference in your guest Wi-Fi journey

  1. From the left-hand menu, select Configure WiFi menu, then select Login Journeys.

  2. Choose the journey you’d like to use your venue reference on. You can either click the journey name or use the cog Edit cog icon icon and click Edit.

    1. For image or video reference sets, follow these steps:

      1. Click the Show Page node and click the Edit icon.

      2. Select the relevant image or video drop down - e.g. Logo image.

      3. Scroll down through the list of assets to find the Venue Refs sub-section and select the venue reference.

      4. Click Close.

    2. For Redirect URL References, follow these steps:

      1. Click the Go to URL node and click the Edit icon.

      2. Enter the URL below, and edit the numerical value with your Reference Set ID, and enter a fallback URL, such as your website homepage:

      3. %venueMetaData.referenceSet[1932]?https://www.cafe.com/homepage%

      📌 Note: You will need to copy and paste the Reference Set ID which can be found by clicking Administration, then Venue Refs. You will see the list of previously setup Venue Refs in a summary table.

      The first column named Id will show the unique numerical ID required, copy or note down the relevant ID number for later use - e.g. 1932 for this example:

  3. Click Save to apply your changes.
