Configure your Cisco Meraki MR Series Access Points

Configuration guide for Cisco Meraki MR access points.

πŸ“Œ Note: If you already have a Guest SSID configured, you can skip to Access Control.

Guest WiFi configuration

To configure a Guest SSID, follow all of the steps below in order.

SSID configuration

To configure your guest SSID, follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Meraki dashboard.

  2. From the left-hand menu, click Wireless.

  3. Under Configure select SSIDs.

  4. Select an unconfigured network and rename the SSID.

    1. πŸ€“ Tip: We recommend the following naming convention: _[Venue Name] Free WiFi.

  5. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.

Access Control

To set up your RADIUS servers and Walled Garden, follow these steps:

  1. From the left hand menu, click Wireless.

  2. Under Configure select Access Control.

  3. From the SSID list, select the network you wish to use.

  4. Configure with the below settings:

    • Security: Open (no encryption)

    • Splash page: Sign-on with my RADIUS server.

  5. Click Advanced splash settings to show additional captive portal settings.

    • Captive portal strength: Select Block all access until sign-on is complete.

    • Walled garden: Select Enabled.

  6. In the Walled garden ranges field, enter all of the following walled garden domains. There may also be other relevant regional accounts if your venue is outside of the UK or US that you will need to add.

RADIUS

Enter the below RADIUS details:

  1. Under RADIUS servers, click Add Server. Enter the relevant RADIUS server details for your location:

    • Host:

      • Europe: radius1-eu.wireless-social.com

      • Americas: radius1-us.wireless-social.com

        • πŸ“Œ Note: Choose the relevant server for your location.

    • Port: 1812.

    • Secret: Please contact Support.

      • ⚠️ Important: Ensure that there are no spaces before and after the RADIUS secret.

  2. Click Add Server again and enter:

    • Host:

      • Europe: radius2-eu.wireless-social.com

      • Americas: radius2-us.wireless-social.com

        • πŸ“Œ Note: Choose the relevant server for your location.

    • Port: 1812.

    • Secret: Please contact Support.

      • ⚠️ Important: Ensure that there are no spaces before and after the RADIUS secret.

  3. Under RADIUS accounting servers, select RADIUS accounting is enabled from the list.

    • πŸ“Œ Note: If the setting is not available, see the Meraki Support section at the bottom of this article.

  4. Click Add Server and enter the relevant RADIUS Accounting details for your location:

    • Host:

      • Europe: radius1-eu.wireless-social.com

      • Americas: radius1-us.wireless-social.com

        • πŸ“Œ Note: Choose the relevant server for your location.

    • Port: 1813.

    • Secret: Please contact Support.

      • ⚠️ Important: Ensure that there are no spaces before and after the RADIUS secret.

  5. Click Add Server again and enter:

    • Host:

      • Europe: radius2-eu.wireless-social.com

      • Americas: radius2-us.wireless-social.com

        • πŸ“Œ Note: Choose the relevant server for your location.

    • Port: 1813.

    • Secret: Please contact Support.

      • ⚠️ Important: Ensure that there are no spaces before and after the RADIUS secret.

  6. Scroll to the Data-carrier detect setting, then select Disable.

Client IP and VLAN

If using the default Meraki DHCP then the following settings should be applied:

  1. Select Meraki AP assigned (NAT mode)

    • Content filtering: Choose disabled if you are not using content filtering.

      • If you are using the Wireless Social content filtering service, please contact Support for further details.

    • Custom DNS servers: enter the below:

      • 8.8.8.8.

      • 8.8.4.4.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, then click Save Changes to apply the settings.

Splash page configuration

To configure the splash page redirects, follow the steps below:

  1. Click Wireless from the left menu, then select Splash page.

  2. Select your chosen guest SSID from the SSID drop down.

  3. Configure with the following settings:

  4. To change the frequency your customers see the splash page, amend the Splash Frequency setting.

  5. Click Save changes.


Insights Plus configuration

To collect data for Insights Plus, you will need to configure the Location and scanning settings in your dashboard. See the below steps:

⚠️ Important: For Meraki location analytics data to be sent through to Wireless Social, we need your validator from your Meraki dashboard, without this you cannot validate the setup and start sending data through.

πŸ“Œ Note: Ensure that you save the Post URL and secret first, then Validate the details.

  1. From the left hand menu, click Network Wide.

  2. Click General and scroll down to Location and Scanning.

  3. Set the Analytics and Scanning API options to Enabled.

  4. Send the validator to Support.

    • We will respond with a URL, one per venue if you have multiple sites, and a secret.

  5. Once you have this information, click Add a Post URL.

  6. Enter the URL and secret provided.

  7. Once you input the details, click Save.

  8. Click Validate on the Post URL and you'll see a message similar to the below:

Once completed, notify the Support team and we can confirm data is being received.


Meraki support

If you don't have the RADIUS Accounting dropdown option available, please contact Meraki Support to request that this feature is enabled.

To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the Help icon from the top right.

  2. Click Get help & cases, then click View full case history.

  3. Under the Cases screen select New case.
